The objective of this course is to introduce to students a new area of study in political science: gender and politics. It will examine both theoretical and empirical perspectives on gendered power and how gender has contributed politically to shape institutional and organizational structure in a masculine way. It further focuses on gender and political issues such as social construction of gender, gender inequality, equality and justice, power structure, gender and development, gender and politics, gender and power, women, peace and security, women’s participation in decision making, institutions that shape women’s lives, women and law, women empowerment and policy making.
