Medical Parasitology is a subject where the knowledge is being disbursed on human and animal parasites and the diseases caused by them to humans. In this course, students will acquire knowledge and skills to identify, diagnose, manage, control and prevent parasitic diseases found in Sri Lanka. Further, students will acquire knowledge on main vectors and medically important arthropods. Besides, students will acquire knowledge on identification venomous and non-venomous snakes in Sri Lanka, and management of snake bites within this course.

In the 4th semester, students will acquire knowledge on transmission, pathogenesis, principles of diagnosis, treatment and prevention of intestinal parasites (helminths & protozoa) and tissue nematode infections. In the 5th semester, students will acquire knowledge on transmission, pathogenesis, principles of diagnosis, treatment and prevention of tissue protozoa infections. Further, within 5th-semester students will acquire knowledge on vectors and medically important arthropods. Besides, identification of venomous/non-venomous snakes, first aids following snake bites, identification and the management of envenomation will be taught within the course.
